The map is a very useful artefact, and one that must constantly be viewed critically. Absolutely no cartography that isn’t political. No maps without politically charged fragmentations of ‘on-the-ground’ realities.

This principle obviously doesn’t only apply to maps and cartography, e.g.:

“The binary sex-gender regime is to the human body what the map is to territory: a political framework that defines organs, functions and uses - a cognitive framework that establishes the borders separating the normal from the pathological.”
